DREAM

Short film director Rowan ( center group photo ) has send me some images of the car crash victims I did last yearfor his film "Dream". This make up was the first one after the week long " Back to the Dead" shoot. Again, turned up with my splatter box of tricks without knowing the task at hand. Pulled it off again !! With a few bad jokes and splatter or two, I was done. Thanks guys !!

Vamprik

Rik from Mindseye asked me for some help with a costume. So I sourced him some eye contacts, made him some dentures, and created a subtle pale make up to bring out the cheek bones etc. Another happy customer.

Airbrush Art

During the journey through my new art path, I deciced to take a course in airbrushing. These images are the first attempts after completion of two courses. This also now gives me some skill in the assistance of make up application. At least I can look back at these images to see where I started from.

Back to the dead

Back to the dead was written and directed by Daniel Vink. This was the first short film I had done since " The man who was no one" Through a friend of a friend of a friend, Daniel found me and I was working with his team within days. Thrown in to the deep end with time and budget, we managed to create some pretty gruesome zombies and the like....Connections were now made and the guys from MAPS gave me plenty more opportunities to display some SFX make up !

Custom Masks

Pick the dummy on the top image ??
Due to demand I found myself creating custom masks and props. They have the option of being filled with polyfoam. The middle image " Fast Zombie " was a clients request as to satisfy his passion with the game " Half Life" Iron Maidens " Eddie " was also a for a customer. The alien gray was just to freak people out !! This service is still avaliable.

On the spot

This is where it started...again. My friend Andre gave ma a call out of the blue after many years " Hey Leigh, are you still doing that make up stuff?" My reply was "No not really ... In a band trying my guts out ... why? you need some help?" " I need some make up done" " Ok, When?" In half an hour ok with you?" I had hardly any materials !! but a challenge was before me and I never let a client down. So he came over and I quickly scrounged up some cotten balls, OLD latex, Make up colours ( dont tell Wifey !) and made up some blood. I honestly hadnt done anything for years since I took advice from a psycic and chose between art and music..The result was not my ultimate potential but it began to make me think... The client was happy, and this began the process to the next step ... SplatterFX Studios Workshop #1.

Splatter FX Studios workshop #1 2002

After getting my hands dirty with a shocking Freddy make up I decided to have some friends over ( as Guinie Pigs ) to continue and develop an old skill of mine....Injury Simulation Workshops. I did many of these during my days with Mark Nichols and independantly. Now I was thinking that there may be an interest in this art. So I began to send my curious feelers out for contacts and develop my own persona as a nex FX guy. Band commitments were begining to take a second spot in my future attraction efforts. Everyone had fun and this led me to my next project " Fred the Head"
